The 2017 Pac-12 men’s basketball tournament will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas beginning on Wednesday with the championship game scheduled for Saturday.
The winner receives the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Arizona won the tournament last year with an 80–52 victory over Oregon.
No. 1 seed Oregon is where it was supposed to be — in the Pac-12 tournament final. The Ducks beat Cal, 73-65 on Friday night to make it to the championship game.
Earlier in the tournament, Colorado beat Washington State, 73-63, to earn a date with Arizona in the quarterfinals of the Pac-12 tournament. In the afternoon tip, Oregon wasn’t quite as friendly, dominating the second half en route to a 23-point win over Arizona State.
It has been nine years since a team from the Pac-12 reached the Final Four, but with three teams in the Associated Press top 10, some believe this might be the year the conference ends the drought.
UCLA, Oregon and Arizona are all trendy picks to make deep runs in the Big Dance. But before they can move on, they have business to take care of in the Pac-12 tournament starting Wednesday in Las Vegas. All three teams project as No. 2 seeds in Jerry Palm’s bracketology — a line not likely to change before next Sunday’s committee selections. But it will be important for those teams to make a respectable showing to not slip down, and also to take some sort of momentum into the NCAA Tournament.
